Fallout 4 All Funny Random Encounters
Bethesda'sFallout 4follows the player awakening inside one of the series' signature Vaults after the nuclear apocalypse has laid waste to the world. The player character, dubbed the Sole Survivor due to their status as they are the only remaining resident of Vault 111, sets off to locate their lost son and discover the truth behind his kidnapping.
Fallout 4was released to a rather divisive reception, but it has still retained a sizeable player base. To this day, though, many players have yet to see everything it has to offer. In true Bethesda fashion, the vast open world of Fallout 4is full of weird and wonderful random encounters and events that can trigger when wandering the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Some of these encounters are so exceedingly rare that some fans may not even be aware that they exist at all.
Fake Preston Garvey
Some of the first characters you'll likely encounter in the wasteland are Preston Garvey and the Minutemen. The Minutemen is a civilian militia made up of volunteers to help protect the people of the wasteland from the dangers that lurk within it. Players will become particularly well acquainted with Preston throughout their adventure, making it all the more jarring when an imposter appears.
The man claims to be Preston Garvey and asks the player for donations for the Minutemen's revival. Players can inform the faker that they know the real Preston or that they are the General of the Minutemen if they have progressed far enough in the story. When the imposter realizes his disguise has been seen through, he will make a break for it. Alternatively, players can give him the caps he requests, although choosing this option seems utterly pointless.
Manta Man
Part of the Hubris Comics line-up, Manta Man is a fictional character in the Fallout universe. Or is he? A clear parody of DC Comics' Aquaman, players may be lucky enough to encounter this fictional character in-game...or, at least, somebody who believes they are Manta Man.
On extremely rare occasions, a scruffily dressed settler in a helmet and goggles can be found fighting with the deadly fauna of the wasteland. The amusing wanderer seems to firmly believe that they are the fictional superhero and will address you as such. If the player is wearing the costume of The Silver Shroud, another Hubris Comics superhero, then Manta Man will have some even more unique dialogue with the player. Manta Man also has in his possession a Junk Jet -- an incredibly rare weapon that can only be obtained in one other location.
Kat & Gus
One consistent form of random encounter in Fallout 4'sCommonwealth is the traveling merchant. These vendors come in many shapes and sizes, and some of them are quite surprising, even for the Fallout series. Perhaps the most memorable and rare of these traveling merchants is Kat and her Sentrybot bodyguard Gus.
Kat is a rather jaded young girl in a bright yellow dress. When asked if she is all alone, she will tell the player that she isn't, as Gus looks after her. The pair is most likely a reference to the Bioshock franchise, in which mechanical creatures known as Big Daddies escort genetically altered children known as Little Sisters. If the player defeats Gus in combat, Kat will tell the player that she has lost her only friend and will refuse any further conversation.
Mr. Gutsy's Curfew
A myriad of robotic characters can be encountered in Fallout 4.The Mr. Gutsy model is one of the most abundant in the Commonwealth, and they are not uncommon sights when wandering the wasteland. This particular Mr. Gutsy, however, is a unique variant. When first coming across it, the Mr. Gutsy will approach the player and initiate conversation, claiming that a curfew is in place and the player must return home.
A few options are available. Complying and leaving the area ends the encounter while remaining in the area and refusing to leave starts combat. If the player's Speech skill is high enough, they can claim to be on military business and bypass the robot. The most entertaining option requires a high Luck rating. By repeatedly parroting the phrase "Will you comply?" back and forth, the Mr. Gutsy will end up self-destructing on the spot.
The Mysterious Food Paste (& Pink Ghouls!)
When wandering the wasteland, players may stumble across an assortment of raider corpses lying in the wilderness. Examing the bodies, an intervention letter can be looted from one of them. The letter states that a raider named Hank has become addicted to eating a strange food paste that the group obtained from Suffolk School. Another corpse, Hank's, can be looted for some of the food paste.
Players wanting to investigate this bizarre paste can travel to Suffolk School. Before the war, Suffolk School's Principal agreed to participate in an experimental food program in exchange for extra funding. Supposedly, eating the strange paste for extended periods of time led to a pink complexion and increased anti-social behaviors. The School is full of unique Feral Ghouls who have turned pink after eating copious amounts of the food paste over the decades. If you opt to eat the paste yourself, it provides a bonus of +50 Hit Points and +1 Endurance; unlike NPCs, the player will experience no negative side effects whatsoever.
